Tasting Family-owned

A Syriac wine house in the Akçakaya neighbourhood of Midyat (Mardin), run by its owner Ömür Bey as a small family business. The shop sits on Kocamanoğlu Caddesi in the historic centre of Akçakaya.

Syriacs of Tur Abdin still grow grapes in the villages around Midyat and produce wine by traditional household methods. Local viticulture is built on the Anatolian reds Öküzgözü and Boğazkere together with the indigenous Midyat whites Kerkuş and Mazrona.

Visitors are welcomed for tastings and conversation about Syriac wine heritage; orders can also be arranged for shipping within Turkey.

Alongside wine the shop carries local Syriac specialities such as grape molasses (pekmez), mahleb-flavoured products and house-made liqueurs.
