Bornova Misketi
About this grape
Bornova Misketi is an aromatic white grape closely tied to the Bornova district of Izmir, considered an Anatolian branch of the broader Muscat family. It has been cultivated for generations on the Urla peninsula, in Manisa, and across the inner Aegean — and it remains one of the signature grapes of Aegean viticulture.
Its intense floral and tropical aromatics show character even at low elevations, though the brightest expressions come from cool-night microsites on the Urla peninsula and the inland Aegean.
Growing conditions
Low-acid, intensely aromatic, with subtly spicy fruit. Performs best on volcanic and calcareous clay soils. Harvest timing is critical — over-ripening quickly dulls the variety's signature aromatic intensity.
Where it's grown
Aegean
Stretching from the Urla peninsula to the island of Bozcaada, the Aegean coast is one of Anatolia's deepest viticultural landscapes — volcanic soils, cooling sea breezes, and indigenous varieties like Bornova Misketi and Urla Karası shape the region's terroir. Boutique wineries offer tastings, vineyard tours, and on-site stays.

Denizli
